The honour places the Montreal company among some of the most innovative firms in the world in terms of their commitment to sustainability

Montreal, July 16, 2020 – CarbiCrete has been awarded the title of Most Sustainable Company in the Building Technology Industry at the 2020 World Finance Sustainability Awards.

The awards were created by World Finance magazine to celebrate companies putting green values at the forefront of their business operations. A single winner was announced for every one of the 38 industries considered by the publication.

“We consider the initiatives of nominated companies in their entirety,” says Monika Wojcik, Head of Special Projects at World Finance. “This enables us to see which organization is the most deserving of recognition. Put simply, we select the company that does the most.”

CarbiCrete is commercializing a carbon-negative process for the production of precast concrete. The company’s technology replaces cement in the concrete mix with steel slag and cures it with carbon dioxide, avoiding the GHG emissions associated with cement production, while permanently sequestering CO2 within the resulting concrete products.

“We are very proud to have received this honour from World Finance,” says CarbiCrete CEO, Chris Stern. “We are in the company of some world-class innovative firms, and I would like to congratulate the winners of the other categories who share our commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of their respective industries.”

In December of 2019, CarbiCrete announced that the Environmental division of Harsco Corporation (NYSE: HSC) had made a $3M investment into the company in conjunction with a $2.1M grant awarded to CarbiCrete by Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) to finance a demonstration program in Drummondville, Quebec. The project is set to begin in August.
