How CarbiCrete Creates a Cement-Free CMU
Take a look at the CarbiCrete process, which uses groundbreaking technology to transform industrial waste into a valuable building product: a cement-free concrete masonry unit (CMU).
Why Us?
Cement production accounts for 8% of the world’s GHG emissions. As the green building market continues to grow, the construction industry is looking for reliable materials that reduce cement use. When compared to cement-based CMUs, CarbiCrete CMUs exhibit equivalent or better mechanical and durability properties. They have the same water absorption properties, but higher compressive strength by up to 30% and display better freeze/thaw resistance. CarbiCrete-enabled masonry products offer the same or better quality and performance that users expect, but without the emissions associated with cement production.
Life Cycle Assessment
CarbiCrete’s net carbon-negative impact has been validated by a third-party life cycle assessment. It starts with a 100% reduction of carbon dioxide emissions associated with cement production. Any manufacturing emissions are more than offset by the permanent sequestration of carbon dioxide that otherwise would have been released into the atmosphere, but is instead mineralized in the product during curing. Even when additional transportation and conversion impacts are considered, CarbiCrete’s full LCA results in net carbon-negative environmental impact.

Products
CarbiCrete is licensing its process to companies that produce masonry: CMUs, pavers, retaining walls and other masonry products. Our R&D team is constantly working to optimize our process in order to develop additional offerings.
We Can Reduce Your Carbon Footprint
CMUs
Number of CMUs produced per year
Projected Reduction: Up to
1500 Kg of CO2 permanently embedded in CMUs
3000 Kg of CO2 emissions avoided
Equivalent to the carbon sequestered by
74.4 tree seedlings grown for 10 years.
Pavers
Pavers in square feet produced per year
Projected Reduction: Up to
270 Kg of CO2 permanently embedded in pavers
780 Kg of CO2 emissions avoided
Equivalent to the carbon sequestered by
74.4 tree seedlings grown for 10 years.
